Our team are getting set to launch a new coffee space, you'll soon be able to find us at Commercial Bay in the Auckland CBD. This will be our third Kōkako branded coffee shop in our 18 year history – you might remember the first in Parnell (now called Domain and Ayr) followed by our Grey Lynn stronghold Kōkako Café at 537 Great North Road in Grey Lynn. Our new 40m2 Commercial Bay store will feature an espresso and soft brew bar.
Due to open in September 2019 (we've all got our fingers and toes crossed), Kōkako Commercial Bay will be located on Level 1 of the precinct, with easy pedestrian access via escalator from the ground floor or via the refurbished east/west walkway that connects the existing PWC Tower across Albert Street.
We'll have 10 stools at the brew bar where our team will be able to share our range of single origin coffee via a variety of brew methods. We'll also have four dedicated taps with a nitrogenated cold brew and a rotating selection of other coffee related beverages - yet to be announced (we've gotta keep something a secret, right?).
The Kōkako team has been working on this project for over two years and we plan to use the space to test new products and ideas, alongside hosting customer tutorials and events. We hope Kōkako Commercial Bay becomes a sanctuary in the city for office workers, shoppers and tourists seeking a quality specialty coffee experience.
But what about Kōkako Cafe Grey Lynn? After over 7 years Kōkako Café Grey Lynn is getting a new name and visual identity – as of tomorrow say hello to Postal Service.
The café has become a staple in the fabric of the Grey Lynn community over the years but both it's previous (that's us) and current owners (Troy and Jen) feel that the café needs to grow into its own brand; something that respects its past life as the local post office and celebrates the strong service ethic and community focus the cafe upholds.
Kōkako Café was the name of the café when Troy purchased the business from Kōkako Coffee in June 2017, but we've all felt for some time it deserved to have its own identity, especially as we look to open a new space in Commercial Bay later this year.
The good news for the cafe's loyal fans is that the name is the only part of the café that is changing. Expect the same great Kōkako espresso, cold brew and single origin filter coffee alongside their progressive, seasonal a la carte menu, led by Troy and his team.
