Travelling this holiday season? We know some great places to get a good brew – including a few new ones that just opened this year!
From the far north, right down to Queenstown — this handy guide will lead you to some of the best coffee spots around Aotearoa. To check out the rest of our amazing Kōkako gang, head to the cafe finder where you can see who's closest to you, wherever you are this summer.
The Loaded Dock — Kerikeri
A true gem in the Far North, you'll find Kōkako coffee served inside this treasure trove of a shop. Come for a browse, stay for a brew — Donna and Rod have an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of the store, with a significant collection of vintage goods, furniture and antique collectables!
The Farmers Daughter — Omaha
Staying in Auckland over the holidays? Squeeze in a day trip to Omaha where you can visit The Farmers Daughter — a prime spot this summer with sun-drenched decks and overhanging pohutukawa, overlooking the glassy Omaha estuary.
Kate and her team are there to look after you, from morning ‘til night. You’ll find our brews poured at Mister Morning, their dedicated espresso bar; and served in the Dining Room, paired with a delicious farm-to-fork, ocean-to-table menu.
Circus Eatery — Cambridge
(Closed 24th December—11th January)
Facing the reserve in Cambridge Park, this sweet spot is run by long-time Cambridge-ites, Kiri and Matt. Kiri’s quite the chef, showcasing local, seasonal produce in the cabinet and on their menus. The space is sun-soaked throughout the year, so it'll only get better during these warmer summer months.
They’re pup-friendly too, with dog bikkies at the ready for your four-legged friends — the ideal spot if you’re in the Waikato with ‘ol Fido or want to park up for a bit of dog-spotting!
Petals Cafe — Gisborne
We’ve finally made it to Tairāwhiti! A classy little spot run by Leslynne and Hamish, you'll find perfectly-folded savoury and sweet crepes served up in a beautiful boutique space.
Dropping in a little late in the day for a coffee? Catch them on one of their late nights and share a platter — a beautiful assortment of cheese, charcuterie, smoked salmon and preserve, alongside a glass or two of their namesake rosé.
Little Curious Bagels — Whanganui
(Closed 24th Dec — 12th Jan)
Located in a heritage building on the corner of Glasgow and Harrison, Joel and Grace have put in the hard mahi to transform an old curios shop from the 1920s into a bustling neighbourhood cafe. Admire the restored heritage features, brought back to their glory days alongside pops of their signature teal — spot it on their coffee machine, coffee cups, doors and window trims.
Find both classic and inventive combinations of toppings on their self-proclaimed “boujie bagels” (think house-smoked salmon and slow-cooked brisket) and freshly baked goods. Don’t miss their gluten-free lolly cake or Joel’s famous roasted hazelnut caramel slice!
Niksen — Marlborough
What is it about cafes fitted out in converted buildings that make coffee taste that much better? The perfect pitstop between Nelson and Blenheim, you'll find this coffee bar inside the town’s old post office with owner, Carlie on the tools!
This is a special one for us as Carlie was part of the old Kōkako Cafe team, dishing up vegetarian and vegan meals since way back! You can trust us when we say that the goodies coming from her kitchen are top-notch, in particular the Hazelnut and Caramel Crumble, with the hazelnuts handpicked right there in Marlborough!
We especially love this window, where customers are encouraged to make their marks and add a doodle — check out that thrilling game of tic-tac-toe!
Billy’s Espresso — Queenstown
Billy's is the most recent addition to our outposts, and it’s a biggie! This one’s been a long time coming but we are so proud to finally be pouring our Fairtrade, organic brews in Queenstown.
Say hello to Bevan and Felicity behind the bar — they hail from Bondi, so you know they take their coffee seriously. Find them slinging house-baked scones and muffins, locally-made sweet treats and a classic kiwi line-up of fresh sammies and toasties.
They’re all stocked up for summer — pouring our Mahana blend and single-o espresso from state-of-the-art equipment — and have Nitro Cold Brew available on tap.

We hope you have a safe and stellar summer — and that wherever you are, you're never too far away from a Kōkako brew!
